Learn To Play

Interested in becoming a piping or drumming student?

The Capital District Youth Pipe Band provides instruction on the Great Highland Bagpipes and Scottish drums (snare, tenor, and bass) for kids ages 8 to 18.

Small group lessons are held at the Celtic Hall in Colonie, New York, on Wednesday evenings (6 to 7 p.m.) from October through June, with an abbreviated lesson schedule in July and August. We welcome students from the Capital District, surrounding areas, and beyond.

The band’s focus on competition emphasizes dedication, hard work, and musical excellence, while providing a comfortable, youth-centered environment designed for learning and team-building.

A top-notch instruction team distinguishes CDYPB as a premier learning organization that develops young pipers and drummers who often go on to become some of the most decorated and sought-after players in the pipe band world.

Contact us today to begin your journey on the pipes or drums! We’ll talk you through what equipment you will need to get started and what to expect as the process unfolds. We’ll also provide you with information regarding costs, expectations, and obligations.
